Even flowers want to break free

Some may bloom within the confines imposed upon them, but the prettiest for me is the one that manages to break away from externally imposed limitations.

Just Passing By

There are times when everything seems so big and there's nothing you can do about it. But take a few steps forward and what had seemed insurmountable will be behind us. Time can do that, inexorably moving us on even though we may want to stay a little longer.

This picture was taken beneath the late bloomer, several days after its glorious profusion of red. A few more days and these will have blown away or washed out by the rain, reminding us that these too are passing us by as the seasons progress.

The more important thing, I believe, is to never forget to look up every once in a while.

Sometimes, it pours.

After the rain, you need to look more closely to appreciate the beauty of life.

Otherwise you'll just go nuts.

City Musings

In the city, the sun sets behind cars on roof-level parking.

No, I don't live downtown although sometimes I wish I did. Specially at night when, for some reason or another it's impossible to sleep and I long for a more substantial night life than a cricket concert in summer, or frogs on a wet night.

Of course everything has its advantages and disadvantages, like fresh air doesn't come for free (it's exhaled by airconditioning units that you have to feed with electricity). But hey. Either way there's always a good photo op, so it pays to keep your camera loaded.

Late Bloomer

Cavanillesia platanifolia. I like this tree that blooms late in summer, taking its own sweet time to bear flowers. While the rest of the trees have finished flowering and have moved on to producing leaves, this tree stands out, majestic. Like all good things, it can't be hurried

It can be a bit lonely sometimes, though.

But I guess with the seasons in cycles, no one is really ahead ahead like the chicken or the egg question. Maybe one day, when I'm ready for the faster paced life that my peers live in, everyone else will be ready to try out and discover what I already know: the pleasure of taking your time and relishing each moment.
